EU bans over 20 food flavourings after manufacturers unable to prove safety

The EU has banned over 20 food flavourings by removing them from the Union list of authorised flavouring substances through a European Commission regulation. The substances had been temporarily included in the Union list of authorised flavouring substances in Annex I to the EU’s 2008 flavourings regulation (1334/2008) pending a risk assessment by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
