As companies eye advertising on the metaverse, the Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU) warned that digital advertising safeguards to protect children apply in the next marketing frontier. Created as an industry self-regulatory body to police advertising, CARU helps companies comply with laws that protect children under age 13 from deceptive or inappropriate advertising. It seeks changes through voluntary cooperation of companies and, if necessary, enforcement action.
