Energy and Petroleum Ministers in Mauritania certainly do not have a long life expectancy. This is an extremely important government portfolio for the country's future, but over the past few years the holders of this post have scarcely survived more than a matter of months before being replaced. That has again been the case just recently since, on the occasion of the ministerial reshuffle that took place at the end of March 2010, Mr. Wane Ibrahima Lamine was appointed Minister of Energy and Petroleum in place of Mr. Ahmed Ould Moulay Ahmed, who had only been in the job since 2009. Mr. Moulay Ahmed was appointed Minister of Finance in the latest reshuffle. This instability, which is one of the consequences of the country's governmental and political instability over the past few years, clearly does not make for continuity in national energy policy.
