Risks arising from agrochemical usage in the EU have continuously declined, while emergency authorisations have increased in the past decade, show data published by the European Commission. The statistics on EU agrochemical usage for the period are based on the harmonised risk indicators, HRI1 and HRI2. HRI1, which measures the use and risk of agrochemicals, shows a reduction of 22% in the risk to human health and the environment from agrochemicals in the EU between the 2011-13 baseline and 2020. It further shows a percentage point drop from the baseline compared with the 2019 figures.
