India OKs biosafety trials of Rallis' GM maize and cotton

Rallis India has received clearance from the country's apex biotechnology regulatory body, the Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC), to undertake “confined” field trials of genetically modified herbicide-tolerant and insect-resistant cotton and maize in the states of Haryana and Karnataka. The development follows respective state governments approving a 2021 proposal by the company to that effect.
