Dana Petroleum's Akhenaton-1 Well Encounters an Oil-Bearing Formation on the South October Block

The British firm Dana Petroleum announced on 18 December that it had completed the Akhenaton-1 well on the offshore South October concession in the Gulf of Suez,in which it has a 65% interest.The well was drilled to a total depth of 13,322 feet(4,061 meters)and penetrated the primary target in the Nubie formation at a depth of 13,087 feet and the secondary target in the Thebes formation at 11,704 feet.Water was discovered in the Nubie formation,but crude oil flowed from the shallower Thebes and Sudr formations,with high saturation rates in an 893-foot(272-meter)vertical interval.
