SRAK's Kidan-6 Well Yielded a Combined Flow of 90 Million Cu Ft/Day of Natural Gas

After five years' work in very harsh climatic and geographical conditions, the exploration effort of South Rub' Al Khali Co. (SRAK), a 50:50% joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Royal Dutch Shell, has finally paid off. SRAK announced on 2 August that its fourth well, Kidan-6, had produced natural gas from two zones of the Arab reservoir at a combined rate of 90 million cu ft/day. One zone yielded 50 million cu ft/day and the second zone 40 million cu ft/day. The gas is sour, with a condensate content of 10-25 barrels per million cu ft of gas, according to a statement reproduced by Al Watan. The well is located in Contract Area 1, a 50,000-sq km tract close to the Shaybah field that comprises part of the total acreage of 210,000 sq km assigned the company.
