EU to come up with NGT legislative proposal in Q2 2023

The European Commission will come up with a legislative proposal for a new regulatory framework for plants produced using new genomic techniques (NGTs) of targeted mutagenesis and cisgenesis during the second quarter of 2023. EU Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski made the declaration at an informal EU Council of Ministers of Agriculture meeting in Prague earlier this month. During the meeting, Agriculture Ministers representing member states made a call for rapid availability of NGTs.
