It has been 20 years in an up-and-down business for Cirrus International, which is to say that it has been 20 years so far for the lift technology company. Cirrus passed to the next generation, four years ago, after the death of founder and lift-world legend Laurie Hogg and is firmly pointed towards a bright future in a booming sector. Now operated by Laurie's daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Jahan Pitcorn, Cirrus is sticking with the independent-minded approach established by the company's founder when he set the company up after earning that legendary reputation in the fast-moving and highly-competitive lift technology business. Frustrated by other people's systems, Laurie set up Cirrus in 2002, determined to make things simpler. He had an approach, said a colleague, "where you don't argue, you deliver a quality service, provide backup and the customers will keep coming back". Which is how it was pretty much from the get-go and Cirrus swiftly grew from small beginnings with Laurie working from the home dining room to - much to wife Raelene's relief - an office with a staff that grew to include daughter Elizabeth. Though she wasn't involved with lifts at first.
