Total Expects SRAK to Start Drilling Operations on its Acreage in Late 2005 or Early 2006

At a press conference in Paris on 8 September,the Executive Vice-President Exploration-Production of Total,Mr.Christophe de Margerie,suggested that drilling operations on the South Rub'Al Khali acreage would start in late 2005 or early 2006.The 209,160-sq km acreage is held by South Rub'Al Khali Company Limited (SRAK),a joint venture between Royal Dutch/Shell (40%),Total (30%) and Saudi Aramco (30%).Mr.de Margerie explained that the exploration program was running two or three months behind schedule because of the terrorist attacks at Al Khobar in the spring (AOG,16 May,2004),but that work was now going ahead normally.
