Every year, the average consumption of oxygen in Electric Arc Furnaces (EAFs) increase. With the current trend the average specific consumption will continue to rise. Steelmakers are finding that they can still increase production and gain profit by using more oxygen in their processes. This has led to recent advancements in the methods used for introducing chemical energy into the EAF process… This paper describes the design considerations and results achieved by the replacement of the conventional sidewall burners and consumable door manipulator with Process Technology International's (PTI) new JetBOx mounting configuration (patents pending) for supersonic, oxygen lancing burners and carbon injection at Huta Zawiercie in Poland. The installation was done in co-operation with Air Products and started new partnership on European and Middle East market.Fig. 1 The PTI JetBOx reduces the oxygen jet and carbon injection travel distance by 2 feet compared to the conventional sidewall mounting.
