The Arab Steel Industry : Curbs and Prospects

The Arab steel industry grew at high rates within the last three years. This growth was mainly the result of putting a number of the new projects into production stage, which doubled the volume of production and created a diversity of products.However, this increased production was not associated with a similar growth of demand in several markets but, on contrary, some markets have seen a decline of demand and an increase of imports of a dumping nature This situation has put the industry lace to face with a crisis. The industry has tried to get out of this crisis by concentrating on reducing such imports and encouraging establishment of new consuming industries.
