Algerian Gas Strategy Greater Caution Concerning Exports and a Focus on Unconventional Gas

Algerian natural gas exports increased by 5% to 55.28 billion cubic meters in 2010 from 52.67 billion cubic meters the year before, according to Cedigaz. They consisted of 36.48 billion cubic meters of gas exported by gasline, which was 14.8% more than in 2009 and represented 66% of the total, and 18.8 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG), 10% less than in 2009. Cedigaz also indicated that Algeria accounted for 10% of total European gas supplies in 2010.
