MENA went through fundamental changes, both politically and economically, following the Arab Spring that swept through a number of countries. Regime change and a subsequent interruption of economic activity have indeed changed the landscape of markets and changed the structure of economies of the countries involved. Yet, compared to 2012 the regional economy made some relative improvements albeit far from returning to normal growth.
