The Hard Decision

It was not an easy decision that was made by Algeria during last October to enter into a partnership contract with LNM/ISPAT Group according to which this group acquires 70 percent of the shares of AI-Hadjar Iron and Steel Complex, the production capacity of which is 2 million tons of crude steel per year, as well as 70 percent of the shares of both Alouenza and Boukhadra mines which are the major iron ore production mines.This decision was not easy for several considerations at the top of which is that AI-Hadjar Iron and Steel Complex which presently has more than 12000 workers is one of the most significant industrial landmarks in Algeria and that it is a national symbol which has over thirty years embodied the title: Industrialization in Algeria as one of the aspects of entering into the field of heavy industries which Algeria has been one of its first principal pioneers.
