Russia: Modernization of finishing lines at Tagmet, SMS Meer supplies pipe threading machines

SMS Meer GmbH, Monchengladbach, the Tube and Copper Plants Division of SMS Demag AG, Germany, has received an order from OAO "Tag-met", Russia, to modernize its finishing lines with four thread cutting machines and a coupling applicator at the tube mill in Taganrog.The thread cutting ma-chines operate on the prin-ciple of stationary tool/rotating tube. Each of these CNC machines can be fitted with a tool for machining the inner and outer surfaces of the tube (integral connections). With appropriate tooling, the 4- axis controller of the two slides permits a high tube throughput per hour. The largest tube diameter that can be handled is 245 mm (9 5/ 8"). The coupling applicator is de-signed for screwing on the couplings using both the torque and stroke methods. A measuring and control system permits documentation of every single appli-cation process.
