The Mauritanian National Company for Industry and Mines (SNIM) had recorded net profits in 2005 amounting to eleven billion and five hundred million Mauritanian Ouguiya ( LJSD1 = 279 Mauritanian Ouguiya) against net profits in 2004 amounting to eight billion seven hundred ninety-six million Mauritanian Ouguiyas. These profits achieved for the second consecutive year came mainly from the iron ore price increase which amounted to 24 percent in 2004 and 71.5 percent in 2005 in addition to the company's improved performance. In its recent meeting in the instant April, the company's board of directors took a resolution to distribute some part of the profits achieved in 2005 over the shareholders, considering that the Mauritanian state is a major shareholder (78.35 percent) in addition to other shareholders.
