MEDITERRANEAN GAS DEMAND An OME Perspective

Natural gas demand in the Mediterranean region more than doubled over the last 15 years, from 106 Mtoe (or 124 bcm) in 1990 to nearly 245 Mtoe (or 285 bcm) in 2005 for an average annual growth rate of 5.2%. Between 2005 and 2030, we expect the gas demand growth rate to stay at about 2.3% per year on average. This rate will translate into a gas demand level of over 430 Mtoe (or 510 bcm) by 2030.5 In 2007 the Mediterranean region represented 10% of the world's gas demand.
