45 Oil Companies Prequalified for the Second International Bid Round for Field Development Projects

The second international bid round launched by the Iraqi Oil Ministry, whose results are due to be unveiled at the end of 2009, represents a major challenge both for its promoters and for the international oil industiy. While it is far too early to speculate about this bid round's chances of success, it is clear that almost all the world's major public- and private-sector oil companies want to be in a position to obtain a share of the spoils,which does not mean they will necessarily submit a bid.The essential step for being in the starting-blocks was to secure prequalification,and 45 companies have succeeded in reaching that stage.
