New Elastomers Units to Be Developed by Sabic/ExxonMobil Could Cost Up to $5 Billion

The new elastomers units that two joint petrochemical ventures between Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic) and subsidiaries of ExxonMobil Chemicals, Al-Jubail Petrochemical Company (Kemya) and Saudi Yanbu Petrochemical Company (Yanpet), are planning to build at their complexes could cost up to $5 billion, according to the U.S. company's Vice-President in Saudi Arabia, Mr. Marc Granier. Sabic and ExxonMobil Chemicals signed a heads of agreement for this project in November 2008, and Mr. Granier said the two companies planned to take a final investment decision on it in 2010 or 2011.
