Tracts in the Second Bid Round Represent 'Rarely Seen Investment Opportunities', According to Sonatrach

Following the inconclusive results of the first international exploration bid round organized since the 2005 Hydrocarbon Act came into force, for which the closing date was December 2008, the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the National Hydrocarbon Resources Development Agency (Agence Nationale pour la Valorisation des Ressources en Hydrocarbures - Alnaft) and Sonatrach firmly intend to ensure that the second bid round is a success. Ten tracts located in five well-known sedimentary basins are on offer in this latest bid round. At a briefing held in Algiers at the end of July to present the tender organized by Alnaft, the Chairman of Sonatrach, Mr. Mohamed Meziane, indicated that "we have come together to present projects that unquestionably represent real and rarely seen investment opportunities." At both the technical and contractual levels, they offered "serious chances to oil companies that possess knowhow and are determined to take advantage of the potential contained in the proposed tracts," declared Mr. Meziane.
