Second International Tender Covers 11 Fields, Several of Which Are in the Giant and Supergiant Class

As reported in AOGM on 1 January last, the Iraqi Oil Ministry issued a second international tender at the end of 2008 for which the closing date for the submission of prequalification applications is set at 1 February 2009 (foreign companies that were already prequalified on the occasion of the first tender are exempted from this formality, unless there have been significant changes in their business that could affect their financial capacities and/or technical capabilities). Although these projects are to be carried out under service contracts rather than production-sharing agreements, the new tender has already aroused considerable interest among international oil companies in view of the nature of the fields being offered to the industry.
