Parliamentary Committee Estimates that Oil Smuggling Costs the State Around 5 Billion a Year

The Iraqi Parliament is once again looking at draft bills concerning the oil sector. One of them relates to measures to combat oil smuggling. There is a great deal at stake, since the parliamentary committee on oil, gas and natural resources estimates that the losses incurred by the state due to this smuggling could be equivalent to as much as 10% of the country's annual oil revenues, which corresponds to a sum of around 5 billion a year at the moment.
