After awarding a contract to Samsung Engineering Company of South Korea for the construction of an olefins conversion unit (OCU),Abu Dhabi Polymers Company (Borouge) has now assigned all the EPC (engineering,procurement and construction) contracts for the expansion of its petrochemical complex in Ruwais,a project known as Borouge 2.Samsung's contract is worth Dh 1.1 billion (300 million) and calls for the construction of an OCU that will convert ethylene into propylene to provide feedstock for two polypropylene (PP) units utilizing the Borstar process.The OCU will have a capacity of 752,000 tons/year of propylene and 39,000 tons/year of butene-1,making a total of 791,000 tons/year,and will be the largest facility of its kind in the world utilizing the process of ABB Lummus.
