New Oil Minister Says He Intends to Develop International Cooperation

The job of Oil Minister in Iran is a high-risk one.After being appointed in December 2005,Mr.Kazem Vaziri-Hamaneh,resigned - or was resigned-in August.Before him, the Parliament(Majlis)rejected three candidates nominated by President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad in the space of around four months,between July and November 2005,namely Messrs.Ali Sai'dlou,Sadegh Mahsouli and Mohsen Tassaloti,who had not been considered sufficiently experienced.Before that,during part of the presidency of Mr.Mohamed Khatami,Mr.Bijan Namdar Zanganeh had faced numerous problems as a result of fierce pressure from the regime's"conservatives", several of whom would clearly liked to have taken legal proceedings against him.In the case of Mr.Vaziri-Hamaneh,the Iranian authorities maintain that he has not been particularly mistreated since he has been appointed special adviser on oil and gas matters to President Ahmadi-Nejad.But there were very real differences between the former minister and the President's entourage.
