The Russian company Lukoil Overseas Egypt Ltd.,which acquired a 100% interest in the West Esh El Mallaha (WEEM) concession in 2001-02,has stepped up its activities appreciably there and expects its outlays on the tract to amount to US53 million this year.In 2001 oil production from the concession totaled 523,440 barrels,and that more than quadrupled to 2.6 million barrels in 2002 as a result of additional exploration operations.
