NIOC Is Preparing Draft Contracts Permitting the Private Sector to Work in the Upstream Oil and Gas Sector

Iran's fifth five-year development plan covering the period from 2010 to 2015 provides for the country to step up its crude oil production capacity to 5 million barrels/day and its natural gas production to 1.4 billion cubic meters/day. The international environment and the imposition of tougher sanctions against Iran will make it very hard, if not impossible, to achieve these objectives, although National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) continues to refer to them as though nothing had changed.
