GE to Supply Compressors for the Boil-Off Gas Recovery Project on LNG Jetties at Ras Laffan

The American company GE has announced that the advanced compressor technology of GE Oil & Gas has been selected for minimizing the volumes of boil-off gas flared at liquefied natural gas (LNG) berths in the port of Ras Laffan. The "boil-off gas recovery project", for which the main contract was awarded to Fluor Corporation, provides for gas to be collected from methane tankers and dispatched to a central compression area through large-diameter stainless steel pipelines. In the central compression area, GE compression units will compress the gas and send it to the liquefaction trains of Qatar's two LNG producers, RasGas and Qatargas, primarily for reuse as fuel gas.
