Abu Kamal Petroleum Plans to Invest $15 Million in the Development of Block XXVII in 2010

At its first meeting in early February, the board of directors of Abu Kamal Petroleum Company (AKPC), a new 50:50% joint venture between the Russian company Tatneft and Syria's General Petroleum Corporation (GPC) set up to develop the South Kishma field, has budgeted to invest $15 million in the project in 2010, according to the Ministry of Petroleum newsletter, Syria Oil. The field is located on Block XXVII, in the Deir ez-Zor region, and Tatneft indicated in December that it contained estimated recoverable reserves of 4.89 million tons of crude oil (AOG, 16 Dec, 2009).
