The first of two power generation barges leased from the Turkish company Karkey Karadeniz Elektrik Uretim (KKEU) in July 2012 arrived in the port of Beirut on 18 February (AOG, 1 Aug., 2012). The Fatmagul Sultan dropped anchor close to the Zouk power station, about 14 kilometers north of the capital, on 26 February. Preparations are underway for taking delivery of the second barge in a few months' time close to the site of the Jiyeh power station, south of Beirut. The two barges will have generating capacities of 205 MW and 65 MW respectively.
