Algeria, which is more of a gas province than an oil province, is having to cope with the rapid growth in its domestic gas demand and intends to cover that demand in full while remaining an important player on international gas markets (see Top of the News p. 5). This will require very heavy investments in the development of the necessary reserves and of facilities for delivering the gas to centers of consumption. The transport of natural gas is an activity for which Sonatrach is directly responsible.
