Sabic, Asahi Kasei and Mitsubishi to form a Joint Venture to Develop an Acrylonitrile Plant in Jubail

Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic) and two Japanese companies, Asahi Kasei Chemicals and Mitsubishi Corp., have signed an agreement for the formation of a joint venture to develop an acrylonitrile plant in Jubail. Called Saudi Japanese Acrylonitrile (Shrouq), the new venture is to build a plant with the capacity to produce 200,000 tons/year of acrylonitrile (AN) and 40,000 tons/year of sodium cyanide (NaCN) at the site of one of Sabic's subsidiaries. Sabic will subscribe 50% of its capital and the two Japanese companies the other 50%.
