SolarMed 2010 in Paris: Solar Energy Is Playing a Growing Role in the Energy Policies of Mediterranean and EU Countries

The first edition of the SolarMed conference and exhibition, which was organized by the Arab Petroleum Research Center (APRC), the publisher of AOG, and Paris Energy Forum (for further details, go to the website: www.solarmed.com), took place at the Palais des Congres in Paris from 15 to 17 September. Conceived as a meeting-place between public and private players involved in the development of solar energy on both sides of the Mediterranean, the event fulfilled all its promise. During the two very intensive days of the conference (the exhibition lasted three days), some 40 speakers presented papers on the prospects for solar energy at the world level and in the Mediterranean region, on the complementarities between renewable energies and fossil fuels, which currently account for over 80% of the world's primary energy consumption, on the solar energy policies of Mediterranean countries, on the strategies of the leading players in this new industry, on the means of funding, and on the opportunities to be grasped and the obstacles to be overcome.
