Abstract The heating and cooling of the interior environment consume more than half of the energy used in buildings. The building envelope is connected to many passive design concepts because it plays a vital part in managing the impacts of external weather. Phase change materials (PCMs) are effective strategies for storing a large amount of thermal energy in a small amount of space. Many academics are interested in using Phase change materials in construction materials for thermal control. They were used in various locations for constructing walls, with varying outcomes. The goal of this research is to evaluate the relevant knowledge that studies Phase change materials use in various locations inside constructing walls to determine their optimal position and the aspects that influence them. The optimal placements of Phase change materials were discovered to be extremely reliant on conducting a daily full melting or freezing cycle to be prepared for the next day. Weather and climate circumstances, as well as the implementation objective, influence Phase change materials melting temperature and heat capacity, Phase change materials quantity, thermal qualities of the wall's elements, mechanized heating or cooling or a free-running interior atmosphere, and wall inclination, are all factors that might affect this.
