Saudi Arabia to Acquire a Fleet of Eurofighters for 8.85 Billion and Build a Security Fence Along its Border with Iraq

Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom signed a contract on 17 September for the supply to the Saudi air force of 72 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft costing ￡4.43 billion(8.85 billion),a spokesman for the Saudi Defense Ministry told the Saudi Press Agency(SPA).At the same time,the Ministry of the Interior announced that the kingdom was shortly to start construction of a "security fence" along its frontier with Iraq.The simultaneous release of these two communiques reflects the growing concern of the Saudi leadership about the constant terrorist threats facing the country and the tense situation in the Gulf caused by the confrontation over Iran's nuclear ambitions and the violence in Iraq.
