Security Council Threatens Tehran with Sanctions if it Does Not Suspend its Nuclear Activities,Considered Dangerous

By a majority of 14 to one,on 31 July the United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 1696,which calls for the"full and sustained"suspension of Iran's uranium enrichment and reprocessing activities.The resolution states that,in the event that Iran does not fulfill its obligations by 31 August,the Security Council will re-examine the matter in the light of article 41 of the UN Charter,which authorizes the imposition of economic and diplomatic sanctions and restrictions in the area of transport and communications.The United States and other countries have already started to prepare measures of this kind,explained the U.S.Permanent Representative at the United Nations,Mr.John Bolton.
