Senior Executives at Sonatrach and Two Subsidiaries Suspended Due to Suspected Irregularities in the Award of Contracts

The Algerian media have been reporting since 24 June on the dismissal or suspension of some top managers and senior managers of Sonatrach,indicating that they had been notified of their fate by fax.The newspaper El Watan reported on 26 June that 163 or 164 people had been affected by the layoffs or suspensions,especially in Arzew and Skikda.Questioned by the press on 25 June,on the occasion of the presentation of the new regulatory agencies for the power and mining sectors,the Minister of Energy and Mines,Mr.Chakib Khelil,referred to the "suspension" of only 20 executives at Sonatrach and two of its subsidiaries,Naftec and Naftal,but added that they still "belong to" Sonatrach.
