At a conference held in Brussels on 9 July to promote the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline(TSGP)project,the Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines,Mr.Chakib Khelil,declared that the purpose of the gathering was to"demonstrate the viability of this project."It is obviously not easy to demonstrate the viability of such an ambitious project,which entails the construction of a pipeline that will be a total of 4,188 kilometers in length and will cross Nigeria,Niger and Algeria(see the project resume on the following page).
