QP Signs a Partnership Agreement with JBIC and Could Step Up its LNG Exports to Japan to 11 Million Tons/Year

The official visit to Japan of the Qatari Energy Minister,Mr.Abdallah Ibn Hamad al-Attiyah,which was the first stop on a tour of several Asian countries by the Minister,resulted in agreement on increased cooperation between the two countries in the oil,gas and petrochemical sectors.This cooperation was given concrete form by the signing of a partnership agreement between Qatar Petroleum (QP) and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC),the creation of a joint economic committee,the start of negotiations on an increase in Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports to Japan,and a reference to the possibility of Japan importing gas-to-liquids (GTL) petroleum products from Qatar.
