Update on biotherapies in pediatrics

Today, biotherapies are widely used for the treatment of inflammatory diseases, infectious diseases, or cancers. Biotherapy engineering is based on the antigen/antibody interaction. Biotherapies clearly enable the modification of the natural history of a disease, improving significantly the quality of life of patients. Although the tolerance of these treatments is excellent, it is mandatory to perform a pre-treatment check-up before introducing biotherapy because of their immunosuppressive role. Exceptionally, biotherapies are responsible for severe secondary side effects, thus justifying their prescription in expert centers. Although the literature on this topic is growing, clinical trials evaluating biotherapies in pediatrie patients are still sparse, which has led to off-label prescriptions.
