Algeria Heading Towards Record Hydrocarbon Export Earnings Again in 2005

After reaching an all-time high of about US32 billion in 2004,Algeria's hydrocarbon export earnings could set another record in 2005 on the basis of the level of oil prices since the beginning of this year.In an interview with the local newspaper El Khabar,the Minister of Energy and Mines,Mr.Chakib Khelil,indicated that hydrocarbon export revenues had amounted to US13 billion in the first four months of the year alone,which would result in a 12-month total of US39 billion if oil prices were to remain at the current level.According to Mr.Khelil,the government's objective of oil production of 1.5 million b/d will only be attained in 2006,not 2005.
