JGC Wins the FEED Contract for the Shell GTL Plant and the EPC Contract for the Expansion of Qapco's Ethylene Plant

Within the space of a few days,the Japanese company JGC Inc.won two major contracts in Qatar for the following projects:After announcing the award of the FEED (front-end engineering and design) contract for its planned 140,000-b/d gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant to JGC on 9 March,Shell Global Solutions International,part of the Royal Dutch/Shell group,has now finalized it.In the execution of the work,which is scheduled for completion by May 2005,JGC will call on the services of M.W.Kellogg Ltd.,its London-based joint venture with KBR,part of the U.S.Halliburton group (AOG,16 March,2004).The GTL plant is to be built in two phases,each with a capacity of 70,000 b/d.The total cost of the upstream and downstream work is estimated at US5 billion (for the details,see AOG,1 Nov.,2003,and 1 March,2004).
