We hear a lot about Qualcomm, Mobileye/Intel, Nvidia and Renesas high-performance processors, but not so much about Horizon Robotics. The Chinese company was founded in 2015, and by November 2022 it had already shipped more than two million high-end processors to its customers for use in ADAS, autonomous vehicle and in-cabin applications. Its latest processor, the Journey 5, has been optimized for advanced autonomous-driving applications. BYD, the maker of China's best-selling electric vehicles, selected the processor for a new vehicle to be introduced in mid-2023. Other top Chinese carmakers including SAIC Motor, Great Wall Motors, Changan Automobile, and JAC Group have indicated that they too will deploy Journey 5 in series production. Horizon Robotics was the first Chinese company to commercialize processors for autonomous driving. The company employs 2000 people, more than 70 of whom work in engineering and RD.
