The Rosa field on Block 17,which was discovered in 1998 and came on stream on 18 June last,contains estimated proven and probable reserves of 370 million barrels of oil,according to Total,the operator of the tract [Editor's note:Like most large oil companies,Total rarely publishes data on the reserves of a particular field].The start-up of this field will not result in any increase in production from this concession-which is currently running at about 500,000 b/d-since the "function" of Rosa is to enable the plateau rate of production at the Girassol field to be maintained at 250,000 b/d up to the start of the next decade.
