Egyptian Company OCI Wins Contracts Worth $280 Million for the El Merk Development Project in the Berkine Basin

The El Merk development project in the Berkine basin got under way on 11 March with the award of four contracts to Petrofac, ABB/Sarpi/Petrojet, Kahrif and Siemens (AOG, 16 March, 2009), and the operator undertaking this major oil project, Groupement Berkine, has now awarded a contract worth $230 million to a consortium composed of Orascom Construction Industries (OCI) of Egypt and the Italian firm Bentini for the construction of the work camp and the industrial base. In addition, Petrofac has awarded a subcontract worth $170 million to OCI for civil engineering work and the supply of steel structures. The Egyptian company estimates its share of these two contracts at $280 million.
