Oil Minister Confirms that the Madyan Gas Field Will Enter Production in 2013

King Abdullah "has given directions for more gas wells to be drilled and for more [gas field] development projects to be undertaken" as well as for "utilizing gas in place of oil for the generation of electricity, since oil can be exported or conserved for future generations," said the Saudi Oil Minister, Mr. Ali al-Naimi, during a visit to oil and gas facilities in the Tabuk region. "For the first time in its 80-year history, Saudi Aramco has started using an advanced drilling ship designed to carry out operations in deep waters in order to find oil and gas in the Red Sea," Mr. al-Naimi told the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA). The national oil company is currently drilling two new wells off the Tabuk region, one of which, Hareed, is located north-west of Duba, in shallow waters, and the second, Duba, is being drilled off the town of the same name.
