CTCI and Sinopec to Expand the Capacity of the Aromatics, PTA and PET Units of the Ibn Rushd Complex

Arabian Industrial Fibers Company (Ibn Rushd), a subsidiary of Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic), has awarded contracts to CTCI of Taiwan and Sinopec Engineering of China for the expansion of its petrochemical complex in Yanbu. CTCI's contract calls for it to increase the capacity of the aromatics plant from 560,000 tons/year to 1,180,000 tons/year and that of the purified terephthalic acid (PTA) unit from 350,000 tons/year to 750,000 tons/year. For its part, Sinopec Engineering is to build a new polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plant, PET-2, which will more than double Ibn Rushd's PET production capacity from 330,000 tons/year to 750,000 tons/year.
