DEWA Has Decided to Double the Capacity of its Planned Coal-Fired Power Station to 3,000 MW

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has decided to double the capacity of the clean coal power station it is planning to develop to 3,000 MW, according to its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Saeed Mohammed al-Tayer. Announcing this decision, Mr. al-Tayer assured a press conference that there would be no power shortage in the emirate over the next five years. By the end of 2011 Dubai will have total power generation capacity of 10,000 MW. According to DEWA's website, Dubai's peak power consumption reached 6,161 MW last summer, up from 5,622 MW in 2009.
