Qatar Electricity and Water Company Has Acquired AES Corp/s Interest in Ras Laffan Power Company

Two important events took place in the Qatari power sector in the second half of April. The first was the acquisition by Qatar Electricity and Water Company QSC (QEWC) of the 55% interest held by AES Corporation in Ras Laffan Power Company Limited (RLPC), as well as its 70% holding in RLPC's sister company, AES Ras Laffan Operating Company (RLOC). QEWC has thus become operator on behalf of RLPC. The second event was the award of contracts worth QR 4.28 billion by Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) for phase IX of the expansion of the country's power transmission network.
