PRB coal is emerging as one of the most cost-competitive coals in the US against cheaper natural gas prices, and its low-sulfur content is good regulatory cover for utilities facing tougher emissions standards. "There will be more and more [plant] conversions to PRB... probably more than the market has predicted so far," Southern Co. vice president of fuel services Jeff Wallace said last month.
